MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., June 27, 2005 – Stretch Inc., a pioneer and leader in software-configurable processor devices, today announced the completion of its S5000 family with the introduction of the S5500 processor targeting wireless base station, video and imaging markets. The company also announced the S55DVK00 Development Platform, which includes a complete application development and debug environment for design with the S5500 processor.
The S5500 software-configurable processor provides high-performance and fast time to market in a smaller package than the previous members of the S5000 family. Based on Stretch's S5 engine, the device tailors embedded programmable logic within the processor engine to optimize complex algorithms used in wireless, video and imaging applications. System designers speed development time by optimizing the application software and the instruction-set architecture simultaneously.

The S55DVK00 development platform based on the S5500 processor provides a full-featured and flexible environment for end-to-end application design, beginning with algorithm and feature profiling to fully customized applications. Stretch’s Integrated Development Environment (IDE) is an integral part of the S55DVK00, offering a powerful and intuitive development tool that delivers a single system environment for performing function development, performance tuning, system verification, and in-circuit debugging.
The family of Stretch S5000 processors combines the speed and efficiency of a DSP with the programmability of an FPGA, and is configured easily with standard C/C++ programming tools. There was no use of assembly language, thereby greatly simplifying application development. Designed to perform extremely well in any compute-intensive application, the processors achieve high performance by spotting software hot spots—sequences of operations that get executed many times—and “crushing” them into a single instruction.

The S55DVK00 is priced at $2000 and includes the S55DB00 (S5500 Development Board), Stretch IDE Software License and comprehensive documentation. The S5500 processor and S55DVK00 Development Kit will be available from Stretch in 3Q05.
